This interactive newsletter is available through the use of a “feed,” which is nothing more than a subscription to regular updates that are delivered automatically to your computer. You may recognize the universal feed icon (orange chicklet image) on each page of this interactive newsletter. If you click on that image you can subscribe to the feed. Then you will receive an update every time that a new newsletter article is available.
When you subscribe to a feed (such as this one) you have many choices. Today, there are more than 2,000 different feed reading applications, also known as “news aggregators.” There are even readers that work exclusively on mobile devices. You can even use have your feed simply sent to your e-mail each time there is an update.
There is no need to pay for a feed reader. Many feed readers are free. A handful of popular feed readers are listed at the bottom of this page.
A typical interface for a feed reader will display your feeds and the number of new (unread) entries within each of those feeds. You can also organize your feeds into categories and even clip and save your favorite entries (with certain applications). This is what a typical feed reader looks like.
